Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a broad field encompassing various approaches and techniques aimed at enabling computers to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. This can include tasks such as reasoning, problem-solving, learning, perception, and natural language understanding:

  • Expert systems or search, for example - Expert systems are a type of AI program that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert in a specific domain. Search algorithms are commonly used in AI for tasks such as problem-solving and optimization. 

  • A sub-field of computer science - AI is indeed a sub-field of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent systems. 

  • Getting computers to behave better without explicitly programming every little thing - This refers to the goal of AI to create systems that can learn and improve from data and experience, rather than being explicitly programmed for every task. 

  • Computers with human-level or superhuman intelligence - This represents the aspirational goal of AI, where systems would possess intelligence comparable to or surpassing that of humans. 

  • Anything intelligent that isn't human - AI broadly encompasses any system or technology that exhibits intelligent behavior, regardless of whether it mimics human intelligence or not. 

Artificial intelligence is a discipline; machine learning is a specific way of solving AI problems.
